So you want to work with realtors®...

(But you don't know how to get referrals)

Working with realtors can be either extraordinarily profitable, or exceedingly frustrating, depending on how you approach this niche. The reason why so many loan officers are drawn to this group of professionals is because real estate agents are already targeting the exact same group of prospects that you yourself would like to have in your pipeline.

A healthy relationship with a dedicated group of real estate agents can land you a steady stream of referrals each and every month that have already been sold on working with you, and who have a definite need for your services. It's hard to beat a referral when it comes to quality leads! In my personal career, as we built a network of reliable agents who were willing to feed us prospects every month, we had to hire additional assistants and loan officers to keep up with the volume!

Imagine having 5, 6 or even 10 realtors talking with and referring potential clients that you otherwise would not have had access to. See, it is 1 thing to have a great mail campaign, or consumer direct marketing campaign set up. It is quite another to tap into the power of leverage and duplication of effort.

What I mean, is that as a single individual, you have only so many hours in a day to prospect for new business. However, when you take advantage of the hidden power of networking, then regardless of where you are at, or what you are doing, these professional affiliates are out there selling, meeting, and greeting potential clients and selling them on using your services.

The ultimate outcome of a properly executed realtor marketing strategy is that you show up to the office each morning and check your email and voicemail for phone numbers and contact information of potential clients for you to call, who are already expecting to hear from you. Nice huh?

HERE IS WHAT USUALLY HAPPENS THOUGH....

Regardless of how wonderful the above scenario sounds, this is not what the average loan officer experiences. If you are like most originators, then chances are you have experienced at least 1 of the following:

  • Most realtors tell you they already have a loan officer
  • Most realty offices have an "in-house" loan officer
  • Many realtors will gladly have lunch with you, but never actually give you business

Back to the subject at hand, here are the primary reasons why most loan officers fail at implementing a successful campaign with realtors:

  5. Most loan officers fail to address the true issues and concerns realtors face

Phew! Those are a lot of mistakes that are being made!
